Resolutions

Looking back on last year’s resolution list I am proud to say I did more than I expected! I got a good enough LSAT score to get into law school, I started and finished my first semester and I passed!! I also flew for the first time to LA for work and for New Years 2014 I flew there again, but for fun! Things I did not do: run or get engaged, can’t win them all!

This year I think it will be fun to make a quarterly goal along with some good old fashioned resolutions!

1st Quarter Goal: Buy better clothes- you don’t have to ask me twice!!

Resolutions:

  • Do the majority of my homework on the weekend so I can breathe during the week.
  • Explore SF in ways I have always wanted to do but never made time for.
  • Run the Oakland half marathon in March- we started running already!
  • Read the Hunger Games series.
  • Go on a real vacation this summer, maybe Scotland! Any tips?

How do you like it?

Good Morning and TGIF!

That saying only works for me right now because I like to have Joseph home with me on the weekends!  I will probably do more work this weekend than the last couple of days anyway Sad smile

The week has really turned around for me!  Yesterday was such a good day, and I have high hopes for today and the rest of the weekend as well.

I had a great interview yesterday but actually started my day off shopping.  Who wouldn’t want to do that?! I got something at Michael’s that I will share with you on an upcoming craft project.  I then went the Marshall’s to find a new pair of slacks and had such a successful time of it.  I actually found four pairs that fit great, isn’t it just how it goes? I only need one right now!! Three of them needed to be hemmed so I went with the other so that I could wear them to my interview.

That was one of my possible outfits- I did choose the shirt.  The picture was after I got home and tried a bunch of stuff on. No fear, I had pretty hair, makeup and jewelry!

After I came home from the interview I was tired and hungry so I fueled up and went for a not so quick three miles.  I actually hurt my leg on Monday, not sure how, so it was pretty sore and I stretched the crap out of it afterward.  It has felt fine until now!  I think I will do some more stretches and maybe take an Advil.  It feels like muscle but almost to where my leg attaches to my torso.  I don’t remember that ever hurting before!

When Joe came home we ate dinner and went on a spur of the moment movie date! We saw Zero Dark Thirty, it was AWESOME. We really enjoyed it and will watch it again as soon as it comes out on Blu Ray.

Our only complaint was the rude couple sitting next to us.  They loudly talked the WHOLE TIME in Chinese.  Joe shushed them 5 times before I VERY LOUDLY shushed them.  I was thisclose to walking over there and letting ghetto Amanda out.  They were lucky I had such a great day.

This morning I was reading one of my favorite blogs and the discussion was about how you drink your coffee.  Her readers are mostly healthy living bloggers and many of them drink the same kind of coffee and it got me thinking about you!

I have my coffee with creamer, usually peppermint, French vanilla, or hazelnut.  When I am feeling fancy I froth my creamer or milk with brown sugar! A trick I learned from my fancy friend Beth!

I also started to think about eggs! I like my eggs to be over medium with bread to dip them in.  I know that is not the healthiest way!  I also love hard boiled eggs and will take scrambled just fine.

Q: How do you like your coffee and eggs?

Run for your life- or just for fun!

Call it coincidence, call it strange- call it what you want to call it.

On Friday January 11. 2013 I logged into Map My Run for the first time since January 11, 2012. Weird much?  I was curious to see how long my walks have been and to see the already mapped runs in P town.  It was nice to see that I have been doing about 3 miles and now I can start running it (well maybe not the uphill muddy part) to train for my 5k and half marathon plans!!

Some of my girlfriends and I are planning on running a 5k in March and I am hell bent on doing a half this year.  In March we are doing the Gnarly Neon 5k– which is pretty much the color run but it goes to different towns and has a more desirable date and price for our group.

Tell me that doesn’t look fun!

For some of you, training for a 5k is something to laugh at, but for this girl it is real. I would like to actually run and not walk the whole time or at least have the option of running.

As for the half marathon, I have high hopes for the Divas Half Marathon in San Francisco!  It is before the hot summer months begin and I am hoping my friend Rachel is as down with this as I am!

Not only do we get to wear tutus (or anything we want to wear), but we get tiaras and feathered boas. There is also a dance party afterward! I think it will be incredibly fun and give us something to focus on instead of just running.  It is in May and that gives us enough time to work out!  If anyone is interested I have a training schedule from my previous half marathon training.

Q: Have you ever ran in a race? What was your favorite and why?

Resetting yourself

How often do you take the time to spend a day for yourself?

Yesterday I did just that, and it was wonderful. I often do things that I like to do, but rarely spend a whole day to do things for me and not really worry about anyone else. It’s like pressing a reset button and should be done more often!

I woke up fully rested and spent the first couple of hours relaxed while I made breakfast and messed around on the computer.

At noon I took myself to church for the Epiphany service, it felt so great to be there.  I learned a couple of things that I would like to share with you lovely people!

During the homily, the priest talked about all of the people who come late, leave early and complain that they get nothing from Mass. I know so many people like that, and I often think it is what you make it. It’s a commitment and instead of standing there and blindly listening, reading and talking about it will help make the experience more personal and informative.  Without RCIA I’m not sure I would have learned to go to church the “correct” way, meaning being present and inquisitive.  The priest said that all God wants is your precious time, he wants you to be there and to learn something.  He said something else that struck a chord with me, “don’t leave here as simple as you were before”.  What a wonderful way of looking at it.  You can’t pretend that you are the same because you came, saw, learned, and evolved.  That can be applied to any situation. An Aha moment if I’ve ever had one!

Afterward I browsed around the grocery store for a few things and came home and made some ham wraps (still doing the healthy thing, and Joe likes most all of the recipes I have tried!!).  Not long afterward I went for a walk/jog/hike. Confused? I mostly walked, but felt the urge to jog/run a few different times, and there was a section that was strictly hiking for this girl.

It was crispy outside which was great for the jogging portion of my little adventure.  I also listened to The Lumineers Pandora station, which was the perfect backdrop for the weather.  Usually I don’t listen to anything on a run but when I walk it’s different.  When I started to jog I remembered why.  I always want to go with the beat and that hinders me. When I got home I made a delicious banana and peanut butter smoothie while Joe and I enjoyed some playoff football.

I rounded out the night with a fiesta lime chicken salad and watched J. Edgar with my Joseph.  It was not what we thought it would be, but I thought it was a great movie.  I think Joe was a bit confused with the direction it took, but liked it too.

Today I plan on studying, going for another walk, and seeing Joe early because he has a dentist appointment.  Then I hope I get some reading in and maybe work on a craft that I can’t wait to share with you!

Q: What would you do on your “me day”?

Incentives

Day 4- I am feeling anxious.  Mostly because I am taking this so slowly. I usually jump into something and really push myself.  This is definitely not pushing myself.  After every workout I always want to do more.  The problem has been waiting until late at night to exercise, hoping the Joe and Jen will go with me.  It worked the first two days, however, neither of them are trying to lose weight and it is not important enough for them to want to go.  My solution? I am not going to wait.  Last night I walked alone, which is totally fine with me, but it was too dark and I was on alert.  It will not be an excuse for me, I am going to do it while it is light outside!  I used to run alone every day and I loved the feeling of having my thoughts to myself.  Those runs were like therapy.  I have a confession to make… last night I ran, just a little.  I don’t want to limit myself to just walking! I like to run and dang it, I am going to when I feel like it!

Changing topics just slightly, Jen and I always talk about how we rarely let ourselves have things.  We both always feel like we have to earn them, therefore I have come up with an idea.  I think I should give myself incentives for reaching my goals.  I will make them attainable, and I know that I will feel so great anyway, but this just makes it sweeter.  I am not sure exactly how many pounds I would like to lose, I just know that I want to feel good about myself.  I know for sure that I need to lose AT LEAST 35 pounds.  I would like to lose no more than 50.  At 50 pounds I would still be heavier than I used to be, but at a happy and healthy weight.  I think I should reward myself after every 10 pounds.  Any ideas?  If you were doing this, or if you are doing this, what would you want?

I have done a little research and there are some good ideas, and some outrageous ones as well.  For example, some lady wanted to get a Samsung Tablet for her first goal, must be nice lol!  Mine are going to be much cheaper, but they will be something that I want but feel like I don’t deserve.  Running shoes would be a nice idea, but I just got some last spring for my PE class.  I am thinking along the lines of workout apparel or maybe let myself spruce up my playlist.  When I make a clear decision I will let you know.  One thing is for sure, I will NOT reward myself with food.  Even though I love it more than anything else.

In other news, as if this isn’t already long enough, my laptop battery decided to crap out on me today.  Right when I need it the most! Luckily it works when plugged in, and when that stops working I will use Jen’s computer and buy myself a new battery.  I just have to save all of my work on my jump drive like a crazy woman, especially my senior paper work.

Have a nice day!
